26 Million funded

At this point, it would probably just be easier to assume that at least once a week Star Citizen will raise another million dollars… because 7 days after hitting $25 Million (and 1 day before the end of the Hornet sale), Star Citizen has crossed over the $26 Million funded line (sitting at $24,000 over it right now). This milestone has unlocked the enhanced capital ship system (damage control, navigation, repelling boarders, etc..).

Enhanced Capital Ship Systems – In addition to the command and control systems we’ve already outlined, we’re going to expand capital ship functions! Lead a damage control team to fight fires and repair key systems during battle, control internal bulkheads to slow boarders and man a number of consoles, like navigation and engineering, that will make commanding a capital ship feel even more immersive.

In what is now a weekly column (or, might as well be.. lol)… Chris Roberts unveils some in-engine shots of the Idris’ interior:

Engine Room! Where's Scotty?
Engine Room! Where’s Scotty?

He also gives us the stretch goal for the $28 million mark:

New Starter Ship – The team at Consolidated Outland has decided to take Roberts Space Industries head on in 2944 by premiering the Mustang personal spacecraft. We will use these additional resources to create another ship company and starter ship for Star Citizen. The new ship will be offered for sale alongside the Aurora, so players have a choice between two options to begin the game!

I think this is actually a really good stretch goal, possibly one of the best of the recent ones.  Rather than every new player having to start with the same Aurora (or variant), having a second starter ship will insure a bit more variety amongst the “starter levels”, so you won’t see every single other player piloting the exact same ship (just 50% of ’em).  The tradeoffs between the Mustang and the Aurora sound like it’ll be an interesting choice too:

The result is a sleek, stylish spacecraft that weighs less than the Aurora and has more options for engines and thrusters… at the expense of some stability, weapons hardpoints and cargo capacity.

I like that Chris Roberts addresses the LTI issue, before it’s an issue, by stating that if backers choose to switch from an Aurora to a Mustang, their LTI (if they have it), will transfer as well.  Getting out ahead of the issue, and preventing it from becoming an issue, is the best way to do it.

So, see ya in a week for the $27 Million announcement!
