WingMan’s Hangar #38

It’s Friday… which means…it’s time for a new Wingman’s Hangar from the Star Citizen crew!

If you’re not familiar with the Hangar, it’s a 30-45ish minute peek into what’s been going on with Star Citizen development over at CIG this week.  They also use it as an opportunity to respond to feedback from the forums, and tease us with upcoming tidbits.

So…yeah.. no idea what the monkey suit was all about.. apparently it was something arranged by another backer… I think I need to bleach my eyes or something :P

 

Monkey suits aside, let’s take a look at some of the information we got today:

Sandi hinted at an upcoming modding contest…so, warm up your copy of 3DSMax, and get your ideas primed.. I’m sure that contest will have some killer prizes.  She also tells us that she’s already working on plans for CitizenCon for next year (there’s an invite only gathering in October that was originally supposed to be CitizenCon..but plans changed for this year).

Quick piece of advice Sandi… nail down the dates ASAP, and get them out to us Citizens.. it’s way easier for us to make our plans (vacation time, budget, etc..etc..) when we know the dates as early as possible!

 

Forum Feedback brought us some decent information about Squadron 42 (Questions/Answers are paraphrased).

Q:  Where in the Dev process for SQ42 is the team? Mission development yet?

A:  Locking down main storyline, so starting some work on the missions.

 

Q:  In game ship resales..direct to players, or through 3rd party merchant (auction house?)

A:  Both are possibilities

 

Q:  Any details about permadeath, and how SQ42 comes into play for new character?

A:  Citizenship doesn’t transfer, so SQ42 is a possibility for all characters on an account.

 

Q:  How will g-forces be implemented?

A:  Gravity system on ship will keep you stable, no getting tossed around like a ragdoll.

 

Q:  What happens if you’re out of gas in space?

A:  AAA, maybe covered by insurance, get help from another player, or use your hydrogen scoops.

 

Q:  Ammo for alien ships like Vanduul scythe?

A:  Probably available from some enterprising merchants.

 

Q:  Friends come help with multi-crew ships for Dogfighting module?

A:  Probably not initially, but eventually.

 

Q:  Widgets for our HUD? (Stock, weather, etc.)

A:  Sounds like a good idea, probably have some.

 

Q:  Will we need insurance during alpha/beta?

A:  Not alpha, maybe for beta though – will seek community input.

 

Q:  Boobytrap your cargo, to give pirates one heck of a surprise?

A:  Undecided, but if you can, there will be scanners to look for it (checks/balances).

 

Q:  Steal someone’s ship while it’s docked?

A:  Nope, can’t get into hangar unless invited.

 

Q:  Is there an airlock on the Freelancer, and what’s the belly turret since the specs don’t mention it?

A:  There will be….and artwork.

 

Q:  Can we keep the mini-cutlass that is in the hangar now?

A:  Maybe, if enough people ask.

 

Q:  Momentum?  Can we crash into a missile we just fired?

A:  No fun.. additive momentum so that won’t happen.

 

Q:  Will there be some kind of codex, that players can contribute to?

A:  Galactopedia..and major player events will be in there.

 

Q:  Can we mask our heat signature by hiding in a nebula?

A:  Might cause other problems, but yes.

 

There was also a brief interview with one of the tools guys, who also did the backend work for the launcher (Kyle Rockman).  They addressed the ‘peer to peer/torrent’ patcher.  While the client and backend can handle it..there are some legal issues preventing it currently.  If those are resolved to allow it, they’ll turn it on.

Eric and Robert are apparently going to be out here in Denver next week, looking at a studio they might contract some work out to.  So, time to find out when they’ll be here..and see if I can arrange to meet them and say ‘hi’!
