1.2.7b Patch Notes

Today’s TOR maintenance brought us a small patch…  due to the recent server transfers, it appears some folks are having performance issues on fleet (seems a lot of the destination servers are consistently running multiple instances of fleet with 250-300 folks per instance during prime time).

1.2.7b Patch Notes

6/19/2012

General

  • In order to improve overall performance, the maximum number of simultaneous players on the Imperial and Republic Fleets has been decreased.

MWO: System Requirements

Russ Bullock stopped by the official forums yesterday to give us a “Developer update”.  The update is chock full of all kinds of good information, but the highlight for everyone… is the announcement of the System Requirements for MechWarrrior Online:

MechWarrior Online Minimum System Spec:

CPU:
Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz
Athlon II X2 245e

GPU:
GeForce 8800GT
Radeon HD 5600/5700

RAM:
4 GB

OS:
Windows XP 32-bit SP3

DirectX:
DX9

HDD Space:
4 GB

MechWarrior Online Recommended System Spec:

CPU:
Core i3-2500
AMD Athlon II X4 650

GPU:
GeForce GTX 285
Radeon HD 5830

RAM:
8 GB

OS:
Windows 7 SP-1 64-Bit

DirectX:
DX9

HDD Space:
4 GB

Russ does provide the usual disclaimer about the game being playable, but not necessarily the most enjoyable at just the minimum specs.  The update also touches on the Founder’s Packs that go on sale Tuesday.  As well as stating that the date Founder’s are guaranteed access to the game has been pushed back from July 17th, to August 7th.

Founder’s packs will also only be available for a limited time (though how long that limited time is, hasn’t been announced yet).

Head over to the MWO site, and read the full announcement..

The information Russ has given us, gives me warm fuzzies about the games future, and the direction the team is going (I would like to see more ‘Mechs in at launch though).

Server Transfers are live!

After this morning’s server/site maintenance, BioWare has opened up the initial round of free server transfers:

The initial round of transfers are:

Certain transfers are complimentary at this time:

  • Between the following servers:
  • Keller’s Void to Jedi Covenant
  • Hedarr Soongh to The Fatman
  • Eye of Ashlanae to The Red Eclipse
  • The Shadow Runner to Tomb of Freedon Nadd
  • Rakata Mind Prison to The Bastion
  • Soresu to The Harbinger
  • Mecrosa Order to Darth Nihilus
  • Stereb Cities to The Jedi Tower
  • The Restoration Zone to Jar’Kai Sword
  • Phateem Halls of Knowledge to Mantle of the Force

A word of caution based on some reports on the internet so far… if you’re having to rename your characters post transfer.. it apparently goes through the rename process top to bottom, not depending on which character you actually clicked on to start it.  So pay careful attention to the dialog box that pops up about renames..

Other than that, it appears that transfers have been going quite smoothly, and only taking a few minutes to complete.

Patch 1.2.7 is live

Today’s maintenance is over, the TOR servers are back up…and we have a patch!

Just another small round of bug fixing, nothing major in this week’s patch:

Artemis Revealed!

E3 brought us the reveal of the Artemis countdown MWO started the other day.

It’s a concept of a joystick/keypad/LCD display geared for MWO..

I'll take two!

It looks like there is a throttle on the right side of the keypad too..

I’m torn about this announcement.. I think it’s a VERY cool idea, and I’d love to own one… but.. I feel that anything from Razer is overpriced for the quality of the item.  I’d like to say I think Razer will price this affordably..but, I think it’ll be in the $500+ range.

Still cool, and I’d love to get my hands on a functional one to play with.

Server Transfers

In addition to the 1.3 PTS going live, we also got some more information about the upcoming server transfers..

Most of the announcement is rehashing the same information they’ve been giving us for months.. however there were a couple new tidbits.. the primary one, being a date..

June 12th, limited server transfers will be opened up.  :)

Just like other MMOs, the free transfers will be from specified source servers, going to specified destination servers.. at this point, there is no word on which servers will be in the first round.  Nor is there any word on when transfers will open up outside the free round.

I’m hoping that we’ll at least get the announcement of the original round of source servers on Monday.

Patch 1.3.5 “Allies”

Yesterday (Weds) the PTS for the next major patch for TOR went live.  Patch 1.3 “Allies” is now available for your testing enjoyment.

This patch brings a round of character specific legacy unlocks (extra XP in Flashpoints, from quests, etc..) to make it easier to level alts faster, doing just specific types of content.

The crafting system gets another makeover, particularly with regards to Augments.  For the RP’rs, as of patch 1.3 Social gear is now ‘adaptive’ and will scale with armor types..so your heavy armor wearing characters can utilize the dancing bikini in an Op..

As with the 1.2 PTS, you can earn titles for playing on the PTS:

  • Strike Team Specialist – In order to get this title, a player will need to complete four pieces of content (meaning Flashpoints, Hard Mode Flashpoints Tier 1/Tier 2 or Story Mode Operations) using the Group Finder tool in its default search setting on a single day OR eight pieces of content (using the Group Finder’s default setting) within seven days.
  • Strike Team Commander – In order to get this title, a player will need to complete four pieces of content in a single day AND eight pieces of content within seven days. Again, using the Group Finder tool’s default search setting.

Here’s the video showcasing the adaptive social gear:

Patch notes for 1.3 can be found after the jump…

Coming Soon to The Old Republic!

Today as part of EA’s E3 presser, we got a sneak peak at some of the features coming “soon” to The Old Republic.

New space mission, and new playable species (Cathar) are my favorites out of the announcement.

No set ETA on any of these features yet.  The good news is that it wasn’t presented as being part of an expansion, so it sounds like this will all be free updates to the game!
