Amazon Rocks

Not video game related, but.. still needs to be said.

A couple months ago, I preordered the “Ultimate” Avengers Assemble phase 1 collector’s edition from Amazon (it’s the one that came with the suitcase, the tesseract, copies of all the movies..etc.. etc..). Here’s the link.

Turns out, some luggage company is suing Disney and Marvel, because the replica suitcase in the collection (which is supposed to look like the suitcase Nick Fury carried in the movies).. looks too much like one of their suitcases.  As a result, Disney/Marvel have had to push the release of this collection back to sometime next year, while they redesign the packaging.

Totally not Amazon’s fault that the release date for this got moved back ~6 months (everyone thinks this will come in Spring of 2013 now)…  All Amazon had to do, was keep my pre-order open until then, maybe shoot a ‘FYI’ email off to everyone that pre-ordered, just so they weren’t surprised when they didn’t get the movie on the 25th.

Amazon however, apparently wasn’t content with that..  They sent me an email this morning, letting me know about the delay, and that my pre-order was still valid.  They also included a code to redeem for a free copy of the Avengers on Blu-Ray when it does street on the 25th!

Here’s some of the email text (minus the code, obviously):

We’re writing to let you know that the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One-Avengers Assembled Collection will not be released by Marvel as originally expected. Instead, Marvel is planning to offer a similar collection in new packaging. The new collection will include the original titles offered with the first version of the item, and is expected to be available in the spring of 2013. To make this easy for you, we updated your order for the original collection and will ship the new collection when it becomes available. The price of the new collection will be the same as the original collection.

To show our appreciation for your understanding, we are providing you with a promo code to receive a free copy of Marvel’s The Avengers (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging). To be eligible, you must have placed your order between June 1, 2012 and August 28, 2012. Any cancelled orders are not eligible to receive the free copy. Codes must be redeemed by October 15, 2012.

So… Thanks Amazon for going above and beyond what you needed to do, without anyone screaming and hollering, or threatening to sue you for something that isn’t your fault!

This one is for you Amazon!

SWTOR Q&A – 7/27 Edition

While I was off playing MWO… BioWare went and adhered to their Q&A schedule! (I know, the nerve of them, right?).. The Weekly Q&A is now up, and this week’s selection of questions, and answers, is much better than it has been the last few weeks.

Here’s my favorite one from the week:

Skendra: Question about Legacy! Under Character Perks -> Travel, at 1.2 there was buff for Sprint Speed but locked and now in 1.3 it was changed to Priority Transport. Why?

Will Wallace (Senior Designer): There were both internal and external balance concerns about allowing players to purchase upgrades to Sprint speed, especially as it related to advantages in Warzones. We don’t want someone to feel like they have to have an optional purchase to be competitive in PvP. The Priority Transport perks were created as a replacement since they are beneficial for all players without upsetting the balance of the game.

I’d still like to know the reason BioWare shifted from the announced legacy level “or” large sum of credits required to purchase Legacy items, to the current legacy level “and” large sum of credits required model.. but this week’s Legacy related question at least shows they’re trying to take balance into consideration with the perks.

Read the whole Q&A here… and chime in with your question for next week’s Q&A here.

Site Status

Just a quick heads up as to the long delay since the last update.  My web host has had some server issues..resulting in them needing to restore everyone hosted on the same web server as me, from backup.

They let me know yesterday that it’s at the point where changes I make to the site, aren’t in danger of getting overwritten (I lost a few updates/images initially).. so updates shall commence again!

EU Beta Invites!

Chris Collins just posted this:

Today, we’re excited to announce that we are sending out a batch of invites! In particular, this initial batch marks the start of a series of invites to our larger European player base, who get the chance to join the Star Wars: The Old Republic Game Testing program and provide feedback during the months up until launch.

In other exciting news, we’ll be making further announcements in the coming days and weeks, as we update you on Game Testing on the European service. On top of that, we’ll also be announcing details around the upcoming Beta Testing Weekends!

With the launch drawing ever-closer, we’re more excited than ever to receive your feedback on the game to help make the launch as smooth as possible.

Time to start refreshing www.swtor.com/tester if you’re in the EU!  Some of these invites were for the peeps that made it to the EuroGamer Meet and Greet the other night.

GameStop Trickery!

Not specifically TOR related, but.. GameStop is pulling a fast one on some of it’s customers.  Appears they are pulling the OnLive coupon that is supposed to be in Dues Ex Revolution boxes.. Since the coupon allows you to play for free on OnLive.

ARS Technica has the full story here!

Bad GameStop! Bad!  If you’re removing stuff from people’s games.. it means you’re opening the box.. and then selling it as new still.. which is bad.. And you are removing stuff from people’s games..because you admitted it..

Time to take my business elsewhere.

Star Wars Galaxies Shut Down

Another Star Wars related announcement, that was not from Bioware, is the announcement from Sony that Star Wars Galaxies will be going dark on December 15th:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/posts/list.m?topic_id=1220357

Now while the forums blew up thinking this means that TOR will be released the same day… I think that speculation is incorrect.  While I don’t know when the game will come out (beyond it being this year).. I’m sure it’ll be out well before December… at least..I hope so.

I never played SWG.. but if you did, better go get your last ‘goodbyes’ in, otherwise you’ll end up like this girl.
