Inside a week of hitting $17 Million funded, the Star Citizen community has pushed the needle right over the $18 Million mark. \u00c2\u00a0As always, this brought with it the reveal of the “stretch goal” for the next two million dollar milestone (in this case, the $20 Million stretch goal). The revealed goal is:<\/p>\n
I’m of mixed thoughts on this one. \u00c2\u00a0I think it’s good, because it will take the time\/resource investment that CIG is making for the FPS “Boarding Actions” portion of the game, and insure it gets a wider use (i.e., perhaps you’re wandering around on a pirate trading base…you might now get jumped by less honorable pirates). \u00c2\u00a0Getting more use out of existing resources\/development is always good. \u00c2\u00a0It means more content, without (ideally) the huge development costs of coming up with new systems, new mechanics, etc..<\/p>\n
I think it’s bad (well, not bad per se…more ‘doesn’t appeal to me’) because.. it’s FPS, and that’s really not my thing (Defiance, and MechWarrior Online being the exceptions). \u00c2\u00a0That said, I realize that there are lots of people who like FPS games, and will enjoy the FPS components of Star Citizen, so I’m definitely not going to be screaming that this goal should be changed just because I don’t like it.<\/p>\n
When Star Citizen hits the $19 Million mark, the “final” stretch goal will be revealed… the one for $21 Million (which, also represents the ‘fully funded’ mark). \u00c2\u00a0I’m hoping that whatever Chris Roberts and the CIG crew have lined up for the final mark… is huge. \u00c2\u00a0Somehow, I have the feeling I won’t be disappointed. \u00c2\u00a0What will be more discussion worthy, is whether or not CIG will shut off the ‘crowd sourcing’ component at that point, or if they’ll keep that aspect up till whatever the planned ‘cutoff’ date is.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
