Dev Question #3

Today is Wednesday, which means the MechWarrior Tactics team has brought us this weeks “Devs ask you” question:

  • What is your favourite type of map theme? (Ex. Water, jungle, arctic, etc. )
  • What would you consider to be important for strategic play and what do you find annoying? (Ex. Cover, elevation, size, etc.)

I think my favorite “Theme” for a map, would have to be a mountain region.. lots of hills, valleys, small caves, etc.. to hide behind, use for cover, etc.

For the second part, I’d go with environmental effects… if I’m playing on a desert map, I’d expect all my ‘Mechs to be running at +1 heat, Arctic map? -1 Heat, etc..etc..

For an annoyance on maps.. small ones, when I played TableTop, we never used just one map.. there was always 3 or 4 stuck together to give us more maneuvering room.. I’d expect the same from an online ‘Mech game.  But, they can’t be like MechWarrior 4 did.. and be huge open fields with no terrain to break them up.. then you’re just slinging Gauss rifles across the map, without ever seeing the opponent.
