Meet the Devs: Pedro M

IGP gives us the latest edition of the MechWarrior Tactics “Meet the Devs” series, introducing us to another member of the Blue Lizard Games team.

Today we get to meet Pedro Moncayo, a 3D artist on the team.

I like this answer, as it shows some of the changes 3D artists will have to deal with, now that the next gen consoles are running on ‘standard’ (well, mostly) PC Hardware:

How long have you worked in the gaming industry?

I’ve been working as a 3d artist for the past 5 years, it’s been a blast and I’m going to keep on it for as long as I can.  I’m pretty excited about the next generation of consoles (PS4 and Xbox One), we are going to face huge changes regarding assets creation because of new rendering technologies, like PBS (physically based lighting). So we are going to need a deeper understanding of how materials work in the real world, new terms like albedo, roughness, substance and other properties will become the new standard, just like normal maps and high poly’s in this last generation. It’s going to be challenging but extremely exciting!

I’m not a big console gamer, but improvements studios make for Console games, especially graphics, will only improve the experience on the PC side too (since the PCs will be more capable anyway).

I know Pedro is a good guy, because he’s an iPhone fan!  :P

What type of cell phone do you use(are you an Android or Apple fan)?

I have an Iphone 4S, I’m pretty pleased with it and I’m not planning on changing it anytime soon. I’m a huge music fan and I really like how Apple integrates the whole music experience into the device. Also the new iTunes radio is pretty cool because it helps me find new music; the iTunes store is nice too :)

(I kid, I kid… I know he’d be a good guy, even if he didn’t like Apple products!)

Pedro also mentions that he enjoys high poly modeling, so, now we know who to hit up for some 3 Million poly models to use as amazing desktop wallpapers!

Welcome aboard Pedro!  Looking forward to seeing your artwork in game!
